Thumel - Goletta lake- Col Bassac Déré- Benevolo hut
The trek goes through the alpine pastures characterising the head of the Valley of Rhêmes. We start from Thumel (1.879 masl) and walk on the easy trail leading to the Benevolo hut (2.285 masl), where we get after a 1.45-hour walk. We then take the local path n°13D which covers the confluence step separating the combe of Goletta from the main valley floor. We walk westwards along the creek originating from Goletta lake and, after about 3/3.30 hours, we get to this lake (2.699 masl) of glacial origin, where we can admire the glacier of the same name which once lapped the lake itself. We go ahead on a moraine (stretch of path classified as EE skilled hiker – see technical difficulties) and after 1.30-hour walk we get to the Col Bassac Déré (3.007 masl) situated on the watershed ridge separating the valley of Rhêmes from Valgrisenche. We go back on the same way.
